Veterinary Fundraiser
4/12/08
We thank you for your donations towards the Vet care for Apache, Mac-T, and Cerious. Now that the wolves are losing their winter coat we can show you what your vet contributions are going towards. You can see in the photos above the chronic dermatitis Mac-T is dealing with. Mac-T is in no pain and he is his usual happy self. Your continued donations will help to maintain the much needed vet care for Mac-T, Apache and Cerious.

Today the good Dr. Kraft treated Apache, MAC-T, and Cerious. These three wolves have been losing their hair and Dr Kraft has taken a skin biopsy and performed a thryoid test on them. According to the results the three canids have chronic dermatitis. She determined that they need to be on a special diet.
Dr Kraft recommends a dog food brand called Pro-Plan: Sensitive Skin and Stomach Diet.
At this time the vet expense is up to $1,970.20. Donations are appreciated.

We lost Barks-A-Lot and June.
Once again Dr. Kraft has made a trip out to Howling Acres. This time to care for June and Barks-A-Lot. June had grew ill and died suddenly. Dr. Kraft had confirmed that she ate a toy and it became lodged in her intestines causeing her to bleed to death. Barks-A-Lot had stopped eating so Dr. Kraft had come to see what the problem was. He had developed an abscess on his injured leg. It was so bad that the vet detemined that he would have died within a few days. So the descision was made to put him to sleep so he no longer suffered. We have appreciated all that Dr. Kraft has done for us so she has gladly accepted our invitiation to be the HAWS lead Veterinarian.

We needed Vet care for Beasley and Shy.
Thank you to those who donated towards the vet bill for Barks-A-Lot and Sequoia. Kraft Mobile Veterinary Clinic returned Saturday July 14th to care for Beasly & Shy. An autopsy was done on Shy to determine cause of death. It is our policy not to allow the wolves to suffer longer then they have to. The vet confirmed that Beasley had only a few hours to live and we all agreed with the vet that it was in Beasley's best interest to make it so that he did not suffer longer then he had to.

We needed Vet care for Barks-A-Lot and Sequoia.
Barks-A-Lot had his leg broken by Beasley because he was lying down in his spot. We had to dart him in order for the vet to care for him. Barks-A-Lot is now in Curious's pen and Curious is now in Cedera's pen and loving it. Barks-A-Lot is in a cast that has to stay on for eight weeks. He will remain in his own pen for now on.

Sequoia had a lump the size of an orange on his left side. After Darting him, the vet removed it and sent it to OSU. It is cancer and we won't know how far along it is until we get the results. The vet said it does not look good.
