Barks-A-Lot (1999-2007) | |
| Barks-A-Lot, an Arctic/Timber wolf, came to Howling Acres along with his sister Shy from Clearwater Washington in 1999. Their owner was killed in a car accident and given to us to care for. Barks-A-Lot seemed to have become ill because he stopped eating. The vet confirmed that he had a deadly abscess in his broken leg. He would have died in a few days therefore we put him to sleep so he would not suffer any longer. Barks-A-Lot was 8 years old. | |||

| Beasley, a Timber wolf, came to us in 1999. He was confiscated by the California Border Patrol while being smuggled across the border. Although blind from having his eyes brutally gouged out when he was a pup, he had become an alpha male at Howling Acres. Beasley & Shy left behind four offspring: Christina, June (deceased), Trouble, and Daisy. At 17 years old, he was the oldest wolf at Howling Acres and in captivity one of the longest living wolves known. For a wolf, Beasley lived a good and full life at the sanctuary. He basically died of old age July 14th, 2007, oddly 12 hours after Shy. | |||

Dakota (1997-2003) | ||
| Dakota was a Timber wolf who came to us in 1999. A kind man picked her up, after she had been shot by a rancher, and took her to a vet. A steel rod and pins repaired her wounded right shoulder, and her rescuer then brought her to the sanctuary. Initially she was weak and depressed, refused to eat, but, with the constant love and attention of staff and volunteers, she has come to trust humans and enjoy life. She thrived, regained strength, and was again able to bear weight on her injured leg. She greeted visitors and loved to show off. Her love for people, especially children, made her a powerful and effective "Roving Ambassador" for the sanctuary. She went to schools and public gatherings to represent, better than words ever could, her story and the plight of the wolf. Dakota sucuumb after a long hard battle to cancer in June of 2003. The cancer started in the original bullet wound area. She will be sorely missed by all whom she touched. | |||
